As a result of customer inquiries about the high cost of lighting underneath their boats, I have been requested to make a simple but tough series of lights for that purpose.

Initially they are Halogen. I’m interested also in LED or HID but costs and ‘grunt’ have to improve.
To keep things simple, I am offering 50W or 35W or 20W halogen lights. The width of beams in ‘degrees’ can be either: 60—38—24—10.
If the lights are out of the water then 20W lamps should be used, if semi submerged then 35W are ok, if underwater then 50W can be used.
The first lights were released in December 2007.

Costs including freight are:
Single light:  $440AUD each.
Two lights:   $420AUD each.
Three lights: $4000AUD each.
Four lights:   $380AUD each.

The user performs installation themselves.
I will start with 12Volt systems, however I have already been queried about 24V and 240V. Where will it all end?

The lights will be made from a combination of Polycarbonate Lens, and fiberglass composite bodies.
The advantage with these materials is that they will not corrode and can easily be used on Aluminium Wood Steel Fibreglass hulls.

I will be developing these lights for use on boats primarily in my local area at first, such as down on the Port Hacking at Dolans Bay Marina.

As soon as I have the prototypes finished (mid December) I will take some photos and put up the specifications on this page of my website.

A big thankyou to all the people who have supported me in the early days of the investigation and design. You know who you are, its my shout for drinks!

Front View, slight angle, D Cell battery for size comparison.
Diameter:  Head 83mm.
Length:  91mm w/o cable gland.
Hole in hull/transom diameter:  52mm.
Wall thickness 8mm - 30mm.
I recommend SIKAFLEX for sealant.
Bolts are Stainless 4mm fine 12mm long allen key countersunk.

The lamp displayed is a German 12V, however if a long life (10,000 hours) is needed I will also supply Italian lamps.
Each light comes with over 5metres of cable.

Note: If you wish to use these lights on the side of your boat, you must recess them into the hull.

The light lens is 6mm clear Polycarbonate.
The lamp is typically mounted at the rear
transom area throwing the light backwards and slightly downwards.

BTW,
The Sony camera that I am using for security/marina surveillance can also be used inside these light housings with the ability to insert/remove them from within the boat.
